Let it Go!

The phrase “Let it go” can mean so many different things to different people. Of course, I can’t not mention that it is the title of a song in a very well known Disney movie. For anyone with young children, grandchildren, nieces or nephews during the time that this movie came out, I am sure their mind would probably go there first! For some it may mean letting go of actual people, places, or things (ie.habits and actions) that are keeping them from living their best life or a life that is pleasing to God. For some, it may be an inside job; letting go of thoughts or feelings such as low-self esteem, unforgiveness, shame, guilt, etc. that weigh them down and keep them from experiencing fully the joy and freedom that we have in Jesus Christ. John 8:36 KJV “If the Son therefore shall make you free, ye shall be free indeed.” And still to some others it may just mean it’s time for something to end or time to move on; it’s not worth any more effort. My focus for this post is when an individual decides to accept Jesus Christ into their life. Repentance is the first step in letting some things go but the work doesn’t stop there because we have an adversary in satan who wants us to not “feel” free even though we are. Ephesians 6:12 KJV “For we wrestle not against flesh and blood, but against principalities, against powers, against the rulers of the darkness of this world, against spiritual wickedness in high places.”

Here are three prayers to use to ask the Lord for help in different areas of your life where you need to “Let it go”

Broken Relationships Lord heal the wounds that I have from all relationships and help me to bring my pain, frustration, and anger to you so that I can be slow to speak and slow to wrath so that when I do speak I can use soft words. Help me to forgive others as you have forgiven me. Help me to let any unforgiveness go! Help me to not judge or condemn. I pray in Jesus’ name. Amen. James 1:9 KJV, Proverbs 15:1 KJV,1 John 1:9, Luke 6:37

Feelings of shame and guilt Lord I confess any sins known and unknown that I have in my thoughts actions and I bring all feelings of guilt and shame to you and thank you for cleansing me and removing them from me. I thank you for enduring the cross for my sake and disregarding the shame of it. I pray in Jesus’ name. Amen. Hebrews 12:2

Help putting off the old man, laying aside weight and also sin

Lord help me to live a life that is pleasing to you in the things that I think, say and do. Help me to recognize the things in my life that are not sin but cause weight that keep me from chasing after you as I should. Help me to lay those things aside in a way that is pleasing to you. Help me to be determined in my daily life to submit myself to you and to resist the devil so that he will flee from me as your word says. I pray in Jesus’ name. Amen. Colossians 3:8-9, Ephesians 4:22, Hebrews 12:1, James 4:7
